Inventorying Services

English & Associates Estate Services offers a full range of personal property cataloging services to individuals, estate planners, legal and financial specialists and trust companies. Cataloging involves the process of documenting valuable tangible assets for one or more purposes including:
  • Financial management and planning for estates
  • Planning for estate distributions to heirs
  • Being prepared in the event of damage, burglaries or catastrophic losses
  • Record-keeping for collections of antiques, fine art, objets d’art, decorative arts, jewelry, and important collectibles
Cataloging often works hand-in-hand with our appraisal services but goes a step further by providing our clients with complete information on all valuable tangible assets in a single, easily updatable document.

Here's How We Do It

We begin each client relationship by explaining how cataloging our services work and exploring how we can best serve you. We take the time to walk you through each step so you have a full understanding of the process. The initial consultation is followed by a mutual agreement on the scope of the work that will be involved. In general, information for a cataloged asset may include: identification, description, condition, origin, photographs, date of acquisition, seller and copy of sales receipt (if available), research, provenance or family records (if applicable), personal notations and valuation.

Catalogs are presented in both hard copy and digital formats. Although similar to a written appraisal report, they are legally non-binding. Digital files become the property of the client who, on their own, may update information as assets are acquired, distributed or sold off. Or if they wish, we will be happy to update their files on an as needed basis.

Cataloging fees are usually based on a contractual full-day or per-project rate. Cataloging projects are conducted on-site by appointment only. If we feel an assignment extends beyond our capabilities and expertise, we will inform you and offer alternative choices.
